Following in the footsteps of the Fire phone, Amazon has launched a new tech gadget named Amazon Echo for its hardware service this year.
According to the Echo’s official introduction, Amazon designed it around your voice with expertly tuned speakers that can fill any room with immersive sound. It starts working upon hearing its activation word “Alexa” and it complies, whether you’re asking for news, music, alarms, information, weather or more. Even so, when you ask “Alexa, add wrapping paper to my shopping list”, it’ll respond with, “I’ve put wrapping paper on your shopping list” in a second even without any physical interaction.
The Amazon Echo is equipped with an array of 7 microphones, using beam-forming technology to collect voice information from any direction. According to Amazon with its enhanced noise cancellation, Echo can hear you just as well even when it’s playing music.
In short, Amazon Echo is a wireless loud speaker controlled by voice that can help to answer questions like Siri. However, the difference is Siri has to rely on iOS devices such as iPhones or iPads, but Amazon’s Echo can be used on Android, iOS, desktops and of course Fire OS.
Running on Amazon’s Web Services and connecting to the cloud, Amazon’s Echo will get smarter and automatically update new features and services. The more you use it, the more it adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences. At the same time of being curious about how it actually works in real life, I’m more curious to know how Amazon will protect the users’ information without being hacked like iCloud in recent events.
